Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 18, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what personal data PetroSmart Academy collects when you visit https://www.petrosmartacademy.com (the "Website"), why it is collected, who receives it, how long it is kept and what rights you have. It describes the practices actually in place on the Website; it will be updated whenever they change.

1. Who is responsible for your data

The Website is published by Ahmadou Habibou, an individual publisher based in Cameroon, who acts as data controller ("we", "us").

Contact for any privacy question or request: info@petrosmartacademy.com, or the contact form.

We process personal data in accordance with Cameroon Law No. 2024/017 of 23 December 2024 on the protection of personal data. Where visitors are located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, we also apply the requirements of the GDPR and equivalent laws to the processing that concerns them.

2. Data we collect and why

2.1 Browsing the Website

Reading articles does not require an account and we do not ask you for any personal information. You cannot register on the Website and comments are closed.

As with any website, the servers of our hosting provider record technical data for each request: IP address, date and time, page requested, referring page, browser and device type. These logs are used to deliver the pages, keep the Website secure and diagnose errors. Our security plugin also records the IP address of failed attempts to log in to the administration area, in order to block brute-force attacks. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in operating a secure website.

2.2 Contact form

When you use the contact form, we collect your name, your email address and your message, so that we can answer you. Legal basis: your request, and our legitimate interest in replying to it.

  • Form submissions are not stored in the Website database. They are sent as an email to info@petrosmartacademy.com through our email provider (Namecheap Private Email).
  • A technical log of emails sent by the Website is kept for 14 days, then deleted automatically.
  • The form is protected against spam by Cloudflare Turnstile, which analyses technical signals from your browser (such as IP address and browser characteristics) to distinguish people from bots.

2.3 Audience measurement (Google Analytics)

We use Google Analytics 4, provided by Google, to measure how the Website is used: pages viewed, visit duration, approximate location (country or city), device and browser type, and how visitors arrived. Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses. These statistics help us decide which topics to develop. Data is kept for no more than 14 months.

  • Visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland are shown a consent message (provided by Google, a certified consent management platform). Analytics cookies are only used if you accept them, and you can withdraw your consent at any time.
  • For visitors in other regions, Google Analytics is used on the basis of our legitimate interest in understanding how the Website is used. You can object at any time by installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on or by blocking cookies in your browser.

2.4 Advertising (Google AdSense)

The Website may display advertising served by Google AdSense, which helps fund free content.

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this Website or other websites.
  • Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this Website and/or other sites on the Internet.
  • You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also learn more at www.aboutads.info.
  • Where the law requires it (in particular for visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland), personalised advertising is only used with your consent, collected through the consent message. Without consent, Google may still show non-personalised ads, which use cookies only for purposes such as frequency capping and fraud prevention.

Learn how Google uses information from sites that use its services: policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

2.5 Embedded content and external links

Some articles embed YouTube videos and interactive engineering calculators hosted on GitHub Pages. When a page containing such content loads, your browser connects directly to YouTube (Google) or GitHub, which receive your IP address and may set their own cookies, under their own privacy policies. Links to Telegram, YouTube, Udemy, Facebook and other websites take you to services that we do not control.

2.6 What we do not do

  • We do not sell or rent your personal data.
  • We do not currently operate a newsletter or send marketing emails. If we introduce one, subscription will require your explicit consent and this policy will be updated first.
  • We do not take automated decisions about you that produce legal effects.

3. Cookies

A cookie is a small file stored by your browser. The Website uses:

  • Strictly necessary cookies: the cookies that record your consent choices, and, for the site administrator only, WordPress login cookies. These do not require consent.
  • Analytics cookies (Google Analytics, for example _ga and _ga_*, up to 2 years): with your consent in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland; elsewhere, subject to your right to object (section 2.3).
  • Advertising cookies (Google AdSense and its partners): with your consent where required by law.
  • Third-party cookies from embedded content (YouTube): set by those services when their content loads.

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you can change your choices at any time with the "Privacy and cookie settings" link at the bottom of every page. Everyone can block or delete cookies in their browser settings.

4. Who receives your data

Your data is only accessible to the publisher and to the service providers that operate the Website on our behalf:

  • our web hosting provider (servers and logs);
  • Namecheap (Private Email), for the delivery and storage of contact emails;
  • Cloudflare (Turnstile anti-spam on the contact form);
  • Google (Analytics, AdSense, YouTube) and GitHub (embedded calculators), as described above;
  • Google Drive, where backups of the Website are stored.

We may also disclose data where required by law or by a valid request from a competent authority.

5. Transfers outside Cameroon

Several of these providers store data outside Cameroon, in particular in the United States and the European Union. We only use established providers that publish their own data protection commitments and, where they apply, standard contractual safeguards.

6. How long we keep data

  • Contact emails: up to 12 months after our last exchange, then deleted, unless a longer period is needed to handle an ongoing request or a legal claim.
  • Website email sending log: 14 days.
  • Google Analytics data: no more than 14 months.
  • Website backups: kept on a rolling basis and replaced automatically after about two weeks.
  • Server and security logs: kept by the hosting provider and the security plugin for a limited period, for security purposes only.

7. Your rights

You have the right to be informed, to access your data, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to its processing, and to withdraw your consent at any time without affecting processing carried out before withdrawal. Visitors covered by the GDPR also have the rights to restriction and portability.

To exercise these rights, write to info@petrosmartacademy.com. We will reply within one month. We may ask for information to confirm your identity.

If you believe your rights have not been respected, you can lodge a complaint with the personal data protection authority established by Cameroon Law No. 2024/017 or, if you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, with your local data protection authority.

8. Security

The Website is served over HTTPS, the administration area is protected against brute-force attacks and access is limited to the publisher, and backups are made daily. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your data.

9. Children

The Website is intended for students and professionals and is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you think a child has sent us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

10. Changes to this policy

We will update this page whenever our practices change, and change the date at the top. Significant changes will be highlighted on the Website.
