PetroSmart Academy publishes technical guides, online courses and calculators for petroleum engineering students, engineers and oil and gas professionals. The guides cover drilling, reservoir and production engineering, petroleum processing, piping and HSE, with worked examples that readers can reproduce.
Who writes and checks the guides
PetroSmart Academy is run by Ahmadou Habibou, a petroleum engineer and HSE specialist based in Yaoundé, Cameroon. He is assistant director and project director at HIKMA Advisory & Coordination, an engineering and environmental consultancy working across Central Africa.
- master's degree in mines and petroleum engineering, Université de Dschang, Cameroon;
- advanced petroleum engineering programme, Oil & Gas Institute of Monastir, Tunisia;
- NEBOSH International General Certificate in occupational health and safety;
- bachelor's degree in organic chemistry, Université de Dschang.
His work includes piping stress analysis with CAESAR II, process simulation with Aspen HYSYS (including a full sour water stripper study), well and network modelling with PROSPER, MBAL and PIPESIM, hydraulic modelling with EPANET, GIS work with QGIS, and environmental and social impact assessments for industrial and forestry projects. The software tutorials on the PetroSmart YouTube channel and the Udemy courses come from this practice.
How the guides are written and checked
- principles are checked against primary sources: standards (API, ASME, ISO, NORSOK), SPE and other peer-reviewed papers, textbooks and regulators' own documents;
- every worked example is recalculated twice, in field units and in SI units, with the script kept in the article's records;
- examples built for teaching are labelled as synthetic; case studies are only described when a traceable source exists;
- figures from paid standards are cited without being reproduced;
- each revised guide ends with a "References and provenance" section that lists its sources and the corrections made to earlier versions.
Corrections
If you find an error in a guide or a calculator, please tell us through the contact page with the page address and, if possible, a reference. Confirmed errors are corrected and recorded in the article's provenance section.
